Don’t offer just one service, offer choices. Don’t assume the deal that encourages people to get in touch with you is the one they’ll commit to later (once you’ve open their eyes to how good you are, and what you can do for them). There are lots of ways to make money as a landscape, travel, adventure, wildlife or fine art photographer. Shooting for a publication, for example, or selling through galleries or other commercial spaces such as tourist stops or cafes. Or working with clients to produce product or marketing images. Or décor for commercial or hospitality spaces. But over the course of your career you'll likely build a library of images that are yours to sell over and over again — if you could only work out how, without turning yourself into a shopkeeper! Well, another year is over — our 50th! — and it’s time to express our gratitude, as always, to the people who make it happen. Thank you first to our clients. Your support, friendship and sometimes patience are very much appreciated. We're honoured that you choose to make us part of your own and your clients' stories. Thank you to our regulars, and to the people who joined us for the first time this year. Thank you also if you’ve just rejoined us. It’s great to have you back. And thank you to our amazing staff! Everything we produce is handmade. Work doubles, trebles To View More >>

Our friends in the northern hemisphere may find it hard to imagine the festive season without snow, hot cocoa, and a warm fireplace, but in Auckland, New Zealand, where we're based, Christmas day is more likely to be beach adventures and a barbeque. We spoke to Kate Roberge  about what makes a New Zealand summer, and our unique festive season, so special. And what does she do? She sends us photos with snow in them! Do you have a favourite or secret go-to spot in NZ? Jacks Point definitely. It's right outside of Queenstown, on the east side of the lake. There are about To View More >>

After coming across Paul and Puyan’s wedding, we knew we had to chat with the photographer behind their beautiful photographs. Documenting love stories both in France and abroad, Jérémy  Boyer has only been in the wedding industry for around four years, and says he's been taking it seriously for the past two! But with his clear vision and creative outlook he's already well recognised for his work. We discussed all things weddings, from mixed cultures and traditions, to the clients you attract, and of course Puyan's one-of-a-kind dress, made by herself. To View More >>

Last week we were enjoying drinks and nibbles with some photographers in the Design Space, and they asked, why all the pictures on the walls? The short answer: We’re visual people and we need visual prompts. The long answer: It’s part of our design process. We fill walls with things that inspire us, projects we’re working on and ideas for the future. They remind us what we’re up to and where we’re going. Workspace has been our main focus as designers this year. We’re a small team, and it seemed a daunting task. “Where do we start?” we thought — To View More >>

I watched this amazing Youtube video on my iPad yesterday. An awe inspiring piece of street theatre. It got me thinking how our lives are lived more and more in two dimensions … on our “devices”. We can, and do, connect virtually with almost anything, anywhere, any time. In fact Ian discovered this event reading a (gasp) book, and googling it. But I wish I’d really been there. That's the point of street theatre, right? Imagine being there on the streets of London - closed to traffic to make way for a five-story elephant, a giant girl and a huge happy crowd. We’re truly grateful to the hundreds of photographers from around the world who took part in our Bragging Rights promotion. Here, in no particular order, are the people whose work we chose to celebrate the love and laughter, vibrant cultures, dramatic environments and compelling stories we see every day in the books and albums we make... Luke Simon  is a wedding photographer based in Adelaide, Australia. Luke sent a wonderful family-centred outback Australian wedding with a barn reception. And this image is from a gorgeous Adelaide beach wedding - the photos are stunning and you'd To View More >>

If capturing a fleeting moment thrills you … if beautiful light makes your heart beat faster … if you dream about composition in your sleep… if you love telling stories with pictures - we'd love to hear from you. It's that time again - we're looking for new images to showcase on our websites and in our new season sample albums and books, as well as in our blogs and marketing pieces (including our new Queensberry Bride landing page). We’re looking for sets of around 80 images, but to enter all you have to do is send us TEN low-res images* from up to TWO different events - a wedding, portrait To View More >>

I'm a bit frustrated! We have two new initiatives to launch but we can't get either out until next week, so I thought I'd try and clear up a few misconceptions about SEO... SEO comes to mind for two reasons. First, in Ian's 14 Tips post a while back he said (rather carelessly!), "10. Link to the venues, florists, dressmakers and other vendors who were connected to the event - another Workspace feature. They'll love you for it, and linking is great for SEO." Someone commented, "Yes, linking is great for SEO, but for the [site] you are linking to, not for you… I'm always wary about linking to…vendors' To View More >>
