This weeks 'Share of the Week' goes to James Kelly Photography, based in the UK, who shared a great Queensberry flushmount album video and words about the importance of printing. Thanks for sharing, James. There’s a wee thank you on its way to you.

"Let's talk about the digital files.

"The truth is, the high-resolution digital files should not be at the top of your priorities of the final product when deciding on a wedding package/photographer it should be the album. Yes by having those files, you will be able to print them as you please and make a wedding book etc but most people rarely get around to doing it.

"I have been thinking a lot about how I have structured my packages in the past and I feel photographers are providing a disservice to their clients by selling them the digital files before a wedding album. But why?"

"My feelings toward a photograph are that it really does not become a photograph until it has been printed."

"My feelings toward a photograph are that it really does not become a photograph until it has been printed. The problem with today's age is that we want everything quick and cheap but we will pay for this in the future when it comes to printing our photographs.

"High street/supermarket/online printers use cheap paper and cheaper inks in order to keep costs down which leads to your photographs lasting only a few years before they start to fade and discolour. A professional photographer will use a high-end printer, with quality paper and ink to ensure that your photographs will have the longevity to even outlast you! This is the same for wedding albums."

"This is the same for wedding albums. Albums will outlast that USB (remember the floppy disk? the same will happen to the USB). Picking your favourite 100-150 photographs and having them presented in a beautiful wedding album, where you are able to touch them will bring back those memories as if it was yesterday.

"Opening that album on future anniversaries, when friends visit or just on the most ordinary days and remembering that happy day, sharing the memories with family, friends and telling future generations the stories is what makes an album. You can’t do that with the high-resolution files and you don’t make that same connection looking at them with a table/smartphone/website.

"With technology taking over our everyday lives, think of an album as an heirloom, something that is still traditional and embrace the art of print. So that future generations can look back on your beautiful wedding day and relive the emotions of your big day as if it was yesterday."
