On my trip to the UK I had the opportunity to visit the studio of Alan and Jackie Rankine. Their work is aimed at a high end market. Their sales are substantial. They don't aim to be the latest newest thing. They do work to stay current but they have cleverly understood the needs of their clients. Their formula is simple and effective. Know your clients, produce consistently good work, back up your promise to perform with the quality of your presentation (including coffee and cake), always have something bigger and better for the client to buy, and have your studio in a castle. They don't chase To View More >>

While talking to photographers in the UK, I realised that what I really wanted to get across, was a simple but important message. The album is for the clients. Our part is to gather collateral and write a story for them. Here's the tip: Step back from the design and pause deliberately... Then start with the idea that this album is not a showpiece for you, the photographer, but is a story for the bride and groom. We can apply our own 'signature' to the imagery, but they own the love and the history that we're writing the story about. We are the story tellers, and it's our sensitivity to them To View More >>

We recently released the lastest final version of Photojunction 1.30 which represents plenty of new features, work and changes. You can read all about it here. A couple of days ago we quietly released another final version of Photojunction 1.31, which doesn't include any big changes, just lots of awesome little ones - and builds on version 1.30. We're happy with the progress we've made since the last final we released about 8 months ago, so now we're going to focus on keeping things simple for you during the silly season. Refinement will be our priority. Cheers, Danny To View More >>

Pre-wedding engagement shoots are fairly common these days - but Lauren and Josh asked their wedding photographers Michelle and TJ Getz of Getzcreative to go one step further and take some post-wedding photos too. Lauren and Josh married in October 2008 in South Carolina, and went out a couple of days later with the Getz to do a casual, fun and intimate shoot. TJ says, "These post-wedding 'Creative Sessions' allow us to offer a distinctive and creative photography session without the pressures of the wedding day." At the end of their session, TJ took some intimate shots in the bedroom which Josh, To View More >>

Sparked by a 'oh-I-forgot-that-was-an-option' moment, I wanted to quickly remind you about the default options you can set in Photojunction to save you time, and a few clicks. In the Photojunction Preferences you'll find an array of options enabling you to customise Photojunction to reflect your preferred and most commonly used settings, such as: How long you like each slide to play for in a slideshow The aperture border colour and width you prefer Units of measurement you like working with (inches or mm) The most common size of aperture you design with Of course all of these options can be changed To View More >>

[caption id="attachment_5211" align="alignnone" width="500" caption="Click image to watch on YouTube."][/caption] If pictures could talk what would they say? Kodak reckons they'd say, "Keep me, protect me, share me". We agree. Live forever. Cheers, Nigel To View More >>

This felt good to read over our Full Scottish Breakfast before another day presenting. Thank you Lisa. Cheers, Ian PS Sales strategies and up-sell techniques are important but it'd be a sad world if they were all that drove us. To View More >>

Here's an wedding album to whet your appetite. Literally. It's not often we see a wedding themed as heavily as Cindy and Eric's. They went to exceptional lengths to incorporate Cindy's love of sweets and the colour orange into their special day. Their photographer Brian Dorsey reflected those tastes in this beautiful album. Chocolate coloured pages of course. Cindy's favourite colour is orange – so think Halloween and harvest time, pumpkins and trees changing colour with the Fall. The striking autumnal colours matched harmoniously with their brown and orange colour scheme. The wedding also To View More >>

For most artists, the real value of their work isn't recognized until they're gone. Elvis's estate is worth far more than it was in his heyday. The works of Da Vinci, Picasso and Van Gogh are now worth hundreds of millions of dollars. We still enjoy Humphrey Bogart movies. They're still making movies about Ian Fleming's Bond character. And of course, Michael Jackson has left a legacy of work that will continue to grow in recognition and popularity. You're an artist. How will your work be remembered and valued? Not just by the people you created it for, but by their descendants? That's something To View More >>
