As a social photographer, it's so easy to get caught up working for clients and watching our bottom line that creative inspiration can become just another item on our To Do list. So how can we stay inspired, and so do our best work for clients, without getting burned out? How can we fill our 'creative well' regularly?' as Julia Cameron from The Artist's Way would ask. There is a way and it's called Instagram. As long as you can get online, inspiration can be yours in a non-stop stream of talent and buzzing creativity. When Instagram first arrived, it was known for its over-processed To View More >>

Justine Ungaro is conducting a Master Class at WPPI about the challenges of setting up business in a new market. We're proud to be sponsoring her. We all know that selling albums can make you more $$, but did you know that selling albums will also make you a better photographer? It’s a hard-learned lesson that took me years to figure out, so I will try to save you time by giving it to you straight! When I started out as a wedding photographer, I didn’t sell a whole lot of albums. I was intensely focused on improving my photography skill and developing my creativity. But as the To View More >>

As told to Cate Scaglione - Life As Fine Art Thanks to the digital revolution our culture is by far the most photographed generation in history. Without planning or purpose, people now take pictures simply to share them on a global scale. Sociologists are enjoying a field day over the reasons why, but certainly with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr we have so many ways to broadcast intimate moments with family, friends, pets and our last meal. Which means professional photography is becoming less relevant and less profitable, right? Or is it? The anti-selfie When a client hires a highly To View More >>

Nothing beats a soulful beach wedding. They are intimate, natural and the choice of location is usually a place of special  significance. Holly and Noel’s wedding was exactly that. Their wedding day was full of natural beauty, and the Australian landscapes are just divine! The team from Luke Simon Photography caught it all on camera and what a beautiful job they have done. The Queensberry Design team designed this gorgeous 10x10 Flushmount Album. See it in all its glory below... A Translucent title page is the perfect start to any album. Chances are you've never been to Marfa, but as it happens we have. It's a tiny town set in the vastness of West Texas (population 2000+) and obviously thriving. Halfway between El Paso and the awesome Big Bend Park, Marfa is surrounded by towns in decline. It used to be a water stop on the railway, and a massive army base, but the trains went diesel and the army left town. So why isn't the town dying, like most of its neighbours seem to be? A minimalist artist called Donald Judd came to town in search of a spectacular landscape to display his massive artworks. An interesting guy ... and other To View More >>

A thoughtful approach to designing and selling albums from Pennsylvania-based Angelique, of our support team. - Ed. There seem to be two primary approaches to album sales, three if you include not bothering (let's not go there). The first approach, popular recently, is Pre-Design. Design the be-all, end-all of albums before your clients even see their images and you'll make a fortune! How could they possibly say no to a 60 side gorgeous 10x18 Duo masterpiece once they see it? Well…because what you included in their contact was a 10x10 flush mount album with 20 sides. That hardly seems fair. It To View More >>

Simon Woolf is one of the most energetic and engaging people I know. When I interviewed him he was in Auckland as official photographer at our previous Prime Minister Helen Clark's investiture to the Order of New Zealand. He got a hug from Helen because they know each other that well and he's that nice a guy. A couple of nights earlier I'd spotted him on TV in the media scrum at Willie Apiata's Victoria Cross ceremony. Again he was the official photographer. And to complete the picture of a guy who's everywhere, one of his landscape images, of an unusual sunrise, had featured the day before in To View More >>

Here's a beautiful press book of a collection of landscapes and seascapes on the West Coast of Scotland, photographed by Simon Mark Whitten of Firehorse Photography. Simon say's "the images were a few snaps that I took (mainly with a compact camera) on holiday recently for a few days with my family!" Those 'few snaps' look absoloutely stunning in black and white, printed on Queensberry's Pearl Metallic paper stock. Take a look at a few layouts. To see more of Simon's work, click here. Enjoy! Simon Woolf is one of my favourite people. One of our longest-standing clients and quite possibly the most energetic person I know (if you don't believe me check out his Facebook page). He sells beautiful landscapes from his shop in Wellington's Cable Car Lane – access way to one of Wellington's top tourist attractions. One day Simon saw a tourist photographing one of his landscapes through the display window, and posted about it on Facebook. "I asked her for a look, and she stated, 'It wasn't a bad copy but was a little light'. I then told her I was the photographer, and she was being a bit To View More >>
