You, the photographer, are entrusted with telling the story of a couple's day ... not any old day ... it's the BIG one. [caption id="attachment_8319" align="alignleft" width="333" caption="The bride and groom"][/caption] They want it told with beauty and creativity. They chose you because they saw your work and figured that you would be the best person to tell their story. Or was it that they fell in love with your prices, and assumed that all photographers were equal (except for pricing)? Ultimately we are telling a story ... we need to know whether we are the authors or the observers, and apply To View More >>

Hello Dears, PJ Nanny here. I've been doing the housekeeping round here for (goodness me) years now, but I've never introduced myself because I don't like to be a bother and I love seeing my boys and girls in the spotlight. But we … no, I … owe you an apology. We released a new version a few weeks ago and on Wednesday afternoon Christine had a phone call from a nice young lady in Australia who had… (Oh, I can't bring myself to say how many) … LOTS of "warnings" in the Photojunction Problem Reporter (my second favourite part of the program) and was feeling overwhelmed by them. She'd stumbled To View More >>

Each version of Photojunction takes us further towards a seamless workflow to design, export and upload your album orders to Queensberry – right first time and hassle-free.. If you're using Queensberry this is just a reminder that you no longer need to use LabFTP. Photojunction does it all, and the advantage is that the processes are managed and automated – so there’s minimal opportunity for anything to go wrong, and you’ll get your album faster. You'll notice our Tips, Tricks and Power Features webinar is making an appearance at the end of the month, and we've varied the times to better accommodate our friends in the UK and Australia. Hope to see you on one of them. Cheers, Nigel PS Danny's headed off on holiday for a few weeks, so Ian and I will be presenting them while he's away. It'll be awesome ;) To View More >>

My recent email suggested that if you can't name five things that differentiate you there is probably only one - price! Not a good look. Among the responses was this one: I'm so sick of working harder and not smarter with the middle to lower end. I want to start all over again and aim at the high end of the market with the best products and service. I have never done an album before. I made the decision to specialise in babies, children and family portraiture. I can visualise beautiful portrait albums sitting on my coffee table in the studio, but I don’t know where to start. Albums are not the To View More >>

Hey, you guys are album designers. Check out Johannes van Kan's recent post on the Queensberry Connects, Judging albums for awards. As a judge for the Australian Professional Photography Awards at PMA in Melbourne a week or so ago, he shares some insightful observations and advice about album design... And shares a few pointers for anyone entering albums for awards. Cheers, Nigel To View More >>

I've gathered enough gongs now to qualify for an opinion on album design. Last week I was a judge for the Australian Professional Photography Awards at PMA in Melbourne. This was an honour I shared with the lovely Jo Grams, Jerry Ghionis, Jackie Chan, Yervant and other luminaries. Several things became apparent: 1) Some authors treated the album as a set of individual prints, mixing black and whites with colours, verticals with horizontals, with blatant disregard for the influence of those images on each other. 2) Some authors were hypnotised by the ability to apply a filter to create a look ... Turns out there's a certain stigma attached to the word 'free'. Take a conversation I overheard this morning. A photographer was talking about how they really like the look of Photojunction but was avoiding downloading because, quote, "Although it says free, nothing is ever free." This conversation reminded me of a post Ian wrote about this time last year titled, "F.r.e.e".  In light of this morning's conversation, I thought I'd resurrect part of it which explains why we give Photojunction away free, and why there's no catch... So… why? What’s the catch? Well, we’re building a community To View More >>
