About our cover materials

Scroll down for descriptive notes on our cover materials and their relative durability.

Classic leather

Not grain-corrected, not a re-surfaced split, not bonded - this really is genuine leather, the best of its kind. Durability: excellent. Like all top-grain leather, may be subject to surface irregularities (see  “About our leathers” below).

Contemporary leather

Rustic suede-finish with a pronounced embossed grain. Durability: excellent, but avoid oily marks when handling.

Milano leather

Similar to Classic but in strong urban colours. Durability: Excellent

About our leathers

Our leathers are hard-wearing cowhides. We buy leather tanned for the furnishing industry because it combines beautiful appearance and rugged durability without appearing too highly finished. We buy the finest hides, which are selectively cut and processed to enhance and project their quality.

Leather is a natural material and the appearance of each album varies with the texture, grain, range marking and density of the hide from which it is made. It is this individuality, together with its durability and luxurious handling qualities, that gives leather its appeal - and that distinguishes it from its synthetic imitators.

Timbers

Smooth genuine Rimu and Walnut wood with natural grain characteristics. Durability: Good however easily scratched if care is not taken.

Urban

A modern look with brushed or corrugated metal Aluminum or Laser Engraved Acrylic. Durability: Good, however easily scratched if care is not taken.

Crespi

A PU synthetic like our very popular Buffalino (see below). The look is more conservative, with muted colours and a smooth surface. PUs are a class of material designed as a substitute for genuine leather. They are quality products not be confused with the cheaper and more common PVCs (polyvinyl chlorides). Durability: very good.

Buffalino

Synthetic PU leather-like material in a range of contemporary colours. Embossed with a leather grain finish. Luxurious feel. Durability: Good

Buckrams

With the exception of leather and vinyl, the most durable material we offer. They look great in a wide range of metallic finishes and the "Techno" textured finish. Durability: Excellent.

Bengalines

An open-weave fabric with a ribbed finish and slight sheen. Not recommended for very large albums. Durability: Good

Vinyl

Man-made material with embossed leather grain finish. Simple and elegant in black and white. Durability: Excellent
