At Izo Photography, outsourcing frees up time to do the things they love.

Photography is a form of self expression, and that's why Jimmy from Izo Photography fell in love with it. After picking up his partner Shona's old DSLR camera, and discovering it was for him, he began to pursue a career in professional photography, which he absolutely loves.

After "practice, practice and more practice", Jimmy's advice to photographers is to outsource work from as early on as possible. When Izo first started out they did everything themselves, but they soon saw how they could free up time to do the things they love.

To us this seems like working smarter rather than harder. We speak to many photographers who fill their days with stuff such as doing their own printing, colour correcting all their own images, designing their own albums and so on. That's a great idea if you love that kind of work or it adds to your income. Otherwise why do it yourself when Queensberry could do it for you?

As Izo realised this they began to outsource more of their work, freeing up their time to spend it communicating better with their clients, taking more beautiful photographs and learning to create a healthier work/life balance. Jimmy says, "We did everything on our own for quite some time before realising we didn't have a life after that. Now we are slowly coming round, but it's still a work in progress."

Professional photography is not just taking beautiful photographs, it's the customer experience that goes along with it. Providing a great client experience, whether it's for your customers or fellow vendors, is just as important if not more.

Izo aims to provide the best and most complete client experience, from the moment they walk through the doors — or from the first email — right through to the time they pick up their album. Building a relationship with the people you're photographing is very important to both Jimmy and Shona, and helps them take better photographs.

The camera can be quite intimidating to many people, so if you have a positive relationship with your clients it's like taking photographs of your friends. "I try to engage them in conversation. Sometimes by just being silly and laughing at myself I am able to make the clients feel more comfortable, and people tend to loosen up and enjoy the shoot more. Humor is my go to and it's a great way to help people relax."

"Our style is very photojournalistic, documentary, and I love landscapes. I always look for good light, the way it falls on my subject. Whether it's a person or a landscape. With people, I really want to see a glimpse of the real person inside, a photo that captures the essence of that person. To create something that can bring back all the memories for the viewer. I want them to look at the images and remember how they felt at that moment, what they said to each other, how they were looking at each other. I want them to be transported back to that day and remember all the details of it.

"It is intensely powerful when an image can bring about such strong feelings – and that is why I love what I do."
