Add the cost of mounting to the cost of texturing / lamination to obtain the price of the services you require on your print.

Mounting

We offer four different mounting materials:

  • Acid-free Gatorfoam has the advantage of being lightweight - ideal for display purposes and, because it can be easily cut, is ideal for prints that will be cut down before framing, eg ovals, panoramas, or prints that do not conform to standard sizes. Comes in 5mm sheets, black or white.
  • 3000 micron/3mm cardboard is lightweight and easily cut. It is ideal for mounting smaller images especially 11x14 and smaller. We recommend that larger prints be mounted onto hardboard or Gatorfoam for extra strength and support.
  • Hardboard / customwood: as their names suggest, these are the strongest and toughest of mounting boards. Ideal for any mounting and framing requirements. Because of manufacturing processes, these are the only products that we cannot guarantee to be acid-free. However, the resin-coated backing on the photographs and the adhesive mounting film both act to form a barrier between the board and print. Our 50 year guarantee certainly stands!
  • McDonald’s canvas is the premium finish for any deserving image. Queensberry is the only lab in New Zealand that performs the true and original, archival McDonald’s canvas finish.

Surface laminates

  • Special Lustre laminate and texture
  • Sand Gloss laminate and texture

A layer of film is laid over the top of the image. With Sand Gloss a layer of material that will give the surface its texture is laid on top. (Special Lustre has a very fine foam impression and a finish similar in appearance to the photographic paper surface on our prints.)

To complete the process the print is placed into a hot press where the film melts, bonds to the print and is imprinted with the texture.

What these textured finishes offer:

  • Eliminate the need for glass in a frame.
  • Protect the image from the elements and surface damage
  • Wipeable with a damp cloth.
  • Provide added UV protection
  • Make copying more difficult

Sand Gloss

As the name suggests, the imprint is a subtle sand grain effect. Sandpaper is laid over the print to give this impression. Finer sandpaper is used on smaller images than that used on larger prints. Gloss finish.

Special Text Lustre

A very fine foam surface impression and very high protective qualities. Lustre finish, similar to the original print.

McDonald’s Canvas

With this premium service, the print emulsion layer is peeled off its resin-coated backing and heat-bonded to canvas, allowing the canvas texture to come through from behind. A layer of Special Text Lustre laminate is then applied to protect the image. The canvas can be supplied:

  • Unmounted (can be rolled into tubes for easy transportation).
  • Mounted on one of our standard substrates (except cardboard).
  • On a stretcher frame (the same method as for an oil painting canvas).
  • As a Wraparound (the canvas print is wrapped around a 19mm foam core, eliminating the need for a frame - ideal for displays and exhibitions). When ordering Wraparounds please allow for 5cm (2in) on all sides to be folded around the foam core - ie 10cm (4in) overall; don't frame too tightly!

Our prices for MacDonalds canvas exclude the mounting cost.
