These pages are designed to offer straightforward, practical information to help our clients understand our systems, and colour management, and run a profitable business.
Digital was supposed to make things easier, but for many people it hasn't worked out that wayHaven’t times changed? Just a few years ago, your job was to shoot pictures and sell them. Your lab did everything else, and “colour management” meant complaining when they got it wrong! Now, many people are saying that the pro lab’s role is strictly limited - to “faithfully reproduce” the images that you shoot and edit in Photoshop. That’s great for some people (and we’re not taking sides in the debate) but we do say there’s an alternative to “Print-Ready”. “Full Colour” service means we take responsibility for colour correction and print quality, just like the old days. Just think - we could have you back taking pictures and selling them while your competitors are still sweating over their computers! Full Colour may make your life less complicated, but you’ll still find these pages a handy reference. Conflicting adviceDoubtless you’ll hear contrary opinions about some of our recommendations, but they’re consistent, they’re simple, they’re practical and they’re designed to produce top quality results.
We believe that seminars and forums are a vital part of the educational process for professional photographers, and hopefully we derive insights and inspiration from them. But bear in mind that the seminar presenter or forum poster won’t be aware how his/her advice (even on something as simple as recommending a different piece of software) conflicts with your own and your suppliers’ systems. And they won’t be there to help when you get into difficulties. We suggest treading cautiously! We'll be there when you need us We’ve invested the time and energy to develop systems that produce consistent, high quality results as productively as possible. You can depend on our Client Support team to work with you when difficulties arise, as they doubtless will from time to time. Do bear in mind that we can be a lot more helpful if you’re using software and practices we’re familiar with and understand. Having said that, we’re here to learn too. If you’ve come across something new and exciting, please tell us about it so we can work through any implications it may have for how you do business with us. If you do stray from our recommendations, bear in mind that you’ll need to comply with our specifications when placing orders. Otherwise confusion, unnecessary loss of quality and/or extra charges will result. |
