Here's what to do if you need to replace a mat in an album.
Firstly, remove the first layer of the mat by peeling the mat in half towards the centre of the mat. In the image above the right hand is holding the page down and preventing the bottom layer from moving, which would risk tearing the page edging. Once the top layer has been removed, the delicate job of removing the bottom layer begins. This is the layer that is attached to the edging, so special care is needed. Once again, one hand is in position to hold down the edging tape and to keep the page steady. You probably will damage the edging, but PROVIDED you pull towards the CENTRE of the page, any damage will be covered by the Repair Kit. Back to the black album again. Notice the left hand holding down the edging tape to prevent it lifting as the remaining thin Mat layer is pulled up and towards the centre of the page. Be slow and careful. Take special care on the corners. Almost finished. You can now clearly see the core page below the remains of the Mat. The surface of the page will be damaged, but this will be covered by the repair kit. Lifting the bottom Mat layer off the page. All that is left to remove is the old mounting film. You'll use the tip of a sharp blade to lift a corner of the film, and it will peel off easily. Peeling carefully away from the edge of the page. The base page surface will be rough but, before going any further, you should carefully remove any gross lumps that could prevent the Repair Kit from lying flat. Remove the backing from the self-adhesive film and tape that covers the back of the Repair Kit. Align the Repair Kit over the page, touching two corners only at first. Check the alignment carefully before applying any pressure. Use a gentle touch so that, if you've placed it in the wrong position, you'll be able to lift and re-place it. Once you're satisfied, apply pressure to activate the bond - thoroughly over the entire face of the Mat and backing. Done! You're ready to mount your print |
