Cover Motifs

We offer one free cover motif and one free personalised album title with all Feature Albums provided they fit one of our standard formats and your order is legible and placed at the same time as the album order. You can find actual examples of our cover motifs in your Swatch Book, or scroll down to see them illustrated on this web page.

All our decorative cover options, collectively known as “cover motifs”, are offered (with one exception) at no extra charge with our feature albums:

Personalised cover insets (photographic or text-based; also available blank)
Personalised blind embossing on leather and fabrics (extra charge)
Laser engraving on our faux aluminium and acrylic covers
Photo Front covers do not require a separate cover motif
Plain covers, unpadded or padded (for more about padded covers, see below).

You can specify your cover motif in Photojunction or on our PDF order forms. As a general rule you can have any option on any cover, but there are exceptions:

The only option available on Faux Aluminium and Acrylic is laser engraving.
Metal and timber covers are offered with vertical motifs only.
Most of our Accessory albums are offered with a limited range of options, or none at all (in some cases there may be an extra charge; check your Price List for details).

Personalised Cover Motifs

We will mount a photo, text or logo in a standard cover motif at no charge. A variety of templates are available or you can send us your own image file, print or other physical insert. Where appropriate our standard pick-up charges apply (please see your Price List for details).

Contact us if you wish to use the studio logo option, as there is a small set-up fee and we need to ensure that your logo is suitable for our processes.

Ordering instructions and design notes

Photographs for cover motifs need to be cropped and sized correctly. We strongly recommend Photojunction v6.22 or later, which will automatically size the image to the right dimensions. If you don't use Photojunction, please take care to get cropping and sizing right – where necessary we apply a cover design artwork charge. Click here for a table of dimensions.

With Photojunction you can export the high-res file for printing and save it to the Exports folder for inclusion with your page layouts when you send them for printing. The image must comply with our file specifications.

Always send everything required for an order together (cover image file, personalised text for cover and title, page layouts etc) and clearly cross-reference the relevant file names and order reference.

Padded covers

Although almost all the covers we make are unpadded, we do offer a padded option. Padded covers are padded on the front only, and are completely plain: photo fronts and cover motifs including blind embossing are only offered on unpadded covers.
