LabFTP: Uploading album orders

(make sure to click ‘full screen’ – bottom right hand corner – after the movie starts)

If you prefer reading, then continue ;-)

PJ Remix’s Order Wizard saves “Bundles” (folders) of files to your hard disk so that you can upload them to your album supplier and lab using LabFTP. The LabFTP software is very simple to use, but should you need it, here is a complete description of how to go about it.

The contents of the Bundle(s) depend on the services you want and the vendor’s requirements. To send your Remix orders to Queensberry all you have to do is drag the ENTIRE BUNDLE to LabFTP for uploading.

Please don’t open the folder and guess what to send – we need everything!

The graphic above shows what Bundles look like (on Mac). Note how the bundle is labeled with a unique ID. This particular bundle is for an order where QBY is doing the printing (note the Print Files sub-folder).

Before you start

You’ll need to complete your User Preferences. LabFTP “filters” your uploads to ensure that:

  • Your files comply with the lab specifications
  • The lab receives a clear, comprehensive, unambiguous set of instructions.

Preferences are accessible from the Edit menu (Windows) or LabFTP menu (Mac)

Step 1: Open LabFTP

labftp4

When you start LabFTP you’re taken to the main Order History window, where you’ll find a list detailing all your previous sent and unsent orders. Obviously this will be empty the first time you use the software.

Step 2: Start a new album upload

labftp2

To start uploading an album order, click the Upload a Photojunction Remix Album Order button at the bottom left of the Order History window. This will open the Upload PJ Order window (below).

You’ll be asked to select a Lab (Queensberry) and a Service (Full Colour Service or Print-Ready). You’ll also need to enter a Studio Reference. We recommend you use the bundle “unique ID” mentioned earlier, as you can see highlighted in the first graphic above.

Please make sure the service details you enter are the same as you selected in Remix!

Step 3: Select a Remix Bundle to upload

Identify the bundle you want to upload. Either…

  • Click on the folder button and browse to, and double click, the Remix order bundle you want to upload; or simply
  • Drag the Bundle on to either one of the Folder boxes.

Either way, LabFTP will detect the Remix bundle and distribute the contents appropriately (if you’re still using Retro you’ll need to do this manually).

labftp11

Once again, please be sure to send us the entire bundle!

You’re now ready to click the Upload button.

Step 4: Start the upload

When you click Upload LabFTP will start gathering up files and uploading them immediately. It doesn’t ask you for any other information, or check the files for problems, because Remix’s Order Wizard did both those things (and warned you of any problems) before it created the Bundle.

An upload progress window will open when the upload process starts.

Cancelling and resuming

labftp10

If LabFTP loses the connection to our server, it will automatically try again every minute (you’ll see a message in the progress window).

If you decide you want to pause or cancel the upload, click the Pause or Stop buttons to the right of the progress window. Stop cancels the upload, and you’ll need to start again.

labftp9

If you quit LabFTP, or turn off your computer, or pull the plug, LabFTP will ask if you want to resume uploading when you reboot. Alternatively you can double click on the order in the Order History window to resume.
