This process “plugs you in” to Queensberry’s systems, including our FTP server. When you’re finished LabFTP will know your account details at Queensberry, you’ll be ready to upload files and you’ll be all set to contact us via email. And you only need to do it once!
If you need help, please contact your account manager or PJ Support and we’ll be glad to assist.
Step 1: Contact Queensberry for an FTP username, password and the download URL
You’ll need an FTP username and password to upload to Queensberry’s server. Typically these will be the same as your QBY account number and the password that gives you access to our Intranet, but they’re not the same thing.
Step 2: Download and install LabFTP
Visit the download URL and click on the correct version for your operating system (Windows or Macintosh). Double click the installer file (labftpWinfull or labftpMacfull) and the wizard will guide you through the installation process.
To start the program for the first time on Mac go to Macintosh HD:Applications and double-click on LabFTP.app.
On Windows click Start, then Programs (or All Programs), open the LabFTP folder and double-click labftp.exe (the application).
Step 3: Set up and register the program
When you open the program for the first time a set-up wizard will start. Just follow the prompts…
i) First, the program will auto-install Queensberry’s lab resources (and will automatically keep them up to date).
ii) If you’ve installed earlier versions of LabFTP you can then point to the existing LabFTP folder in Applications (or Programs) to enter your existing orders in the new software.
iii) After agreeing to our End User Licence Agreement you will be asked to register the software.
iv) Click the Register and Get Unlock Code button. Assuming you don’t have an existing registration LabFTP will open your browser and direct you to our registration website.
You can:
- Enter your Queensberry ID (account number) and password if you know them
- Ask us to email the details to you, or
- Register for a Queensberry ID for the first time.
v) Once you have the details, enter them in your browser, add a name for the computer you’re registering (eg “Alan’s Computer” – this helps if you have multiple registrations) and click the Register button.
vi) Once your registration is confirmed you can close your browser and go back to LabFTP’s registration window.
vii) We will email your unlock code, but the easiest way to unlock is to click again on the Register and Get Unlock Code button while you’re still online, and LabFTP will enter the unlock automatically.
viii) The last step is to enter your lab preferences – your account number (as above), your name, your email address, your FTP username and password, which we emailed when we sent you the LabFTP download URL, and your SMTP details, which you can get from your email client software (eg Outlook, Entourage or Apple Mail). If you have already set up these details in PJ Remix, LabFTP will get the information from there.
ix) Before continuing please take a moment to click the Test Your SMTP Details button. LabFTP will attempt to send you an email using the address and SMTP details you’ve entered. If you receive it you’re done. Otherwise you may need to recheck your email and SMTP details (and/or enter an SMTP username and password if your ISP requires it).
x) When you reach the Thank You screen you’re done. Congratulations!
