The Junction – Queensberry's tech support blog

Nigel

I'm Nigel. A twenty-something year old with a new wife (my first) and a red Vespa. I'm into Marketing and that's mostly what I spend my time doing here at Queensberry. Blogging, Facebook, Twitter, Webinars, newsletters, interviews, PR and networking... I especially love the online stuff. Other than that, give me a ball, a movie, a book, or my iPod and I'll probably ignore you. One day I'll have two dogs (big ones) a couple of kids and own a coffee shop. Maybe. I'm pedantic, tallish, a middle child and some people think I'm metro-sexual. I'm pleased to meet you and I hope we can connect.

PJ Nanny took to the airwaves again last week, bless her, and ‘gently encouraged’ Danny and I to run a webinar on the Photojunction Problem Reporter – which, let’s face it, drives some of you nuts.

And yet in the bindery we see order after order come in with no aggravation whatsoever. So what’s the secret?

Actually there are a few and we’re happy to share.

So with the promise of freshly baked scones for morning tea, we’ve booked a time to talk through some tips and tricks to make the pain go away.

We’ve also asked our support team to send through a few real life examples of Problem Reporter issues for us to discuss.

And of course there will be Q&A time for you to ask your own questions.

Here’s the details:

Thursday 14 October @ 9am (NZDT) – What time does that makes it in your part of the world?

Click here to register and for further information.

Cheers, Nigel

PS Since PJ Nanny will be busy baking the scones, Ian’s agreed to come along in her place ;)

The IT guys are very excited because Queensberry is about to implement a major network upgrade, including a change of providers. We won’t know ourselves when it’s done. If you have lots of bandwidth at your end you’ll notice a substantial speed upgrade when uploading orders.

However you could notice a disruption to the following services over the next few days:

FTP order uploads
Account login (access to our secure server)
Photojunction registrations
Phone (we use VOIP).

Any disruption will occur as our new DNS address propagates across the internet. Some ISPs enforce as much 24 hours for an update, so that is the longest period we expect to be offline for anyone, but it should generally be much less.

If you are attempting to upload orders to Queensberry we suggest you simply leave Photojunction and your computer on and attempting to upload. When the transition is complete the upload should start.

The process is scheduled to start at 2.00pm Friday afternoon our time so we should be back to normal well before the new week starts. Click here for the time in your location.

See you on the other side!

Cheers, Nigel

We had our biggest crowd ever for yesterday’s Queensberry What-if webinar. If you were one of them, thank you. We hope you found it worthwhile (and we’d love your feedback).

The webinar is now available to watch below or on Vimeo (it’s an hour long, but we hung around for another 20 minutes to answer questions!).

The interesting thing is we barely touched some of the “what if” questions Ian posed (so there’ll be another installment soon) … but meantime that is what his calculator is for. You just plug in the numbers (your numbers) and see where they take you.

Key point! Don’t just play with COSTS, but also with VALUES. (eg if you’re tempted by shoot-and-burn, don’t overlook the impact on how much you can charge).

Minimum Average Sale Calculator

Click here for Ian’s calculator, plus instructions for using it. You’ll need to be logged in to our Partner website using your Queensberry username and password.

By the way, just having a Photojunction registration won’t give you access. If you’re not yet registered with Queensberry, click here to be verified by our support team as a legitimate professional photographer.

All the best from Ian, Stephen, Gino, Danny, myself and everyone else at Queensberry.

Cheers, Nigel

PS, if you’re not familiar with all of Queensberry’s online websites, forums etc, you’ll find a complete list here.

PJ Nanny thinks the youngsters over at Queensberry are very sweet … but only let her talk to you when there’s something that they’d rather not say themselves! Click here.

One of the ‘trending topics’ in recent Q&A webinars has been Musée albums… More specifically: How Photojunction handles Musée albums.

Now because Musée is a ‘Design, Print and Assemble’ service, which means Queensberry actually designs the album, you can limit your use of Photojunction to simply submitting the design order (you can do more if you want).

Either way, there are a few things you need to be aware of when ordering a Musée and in this short video (11mins), Danny, Ian and Heather explain everything you need to know.

For the ‘non-visuals’, check out our Brand and Partner Musée websites for more images, options and ordering information.

PS Here’s a recent example of the finished product.

It’s been a little while since we last updated our popular Intro to Photojunction webinar recording on our Vimeo channel.

It’s had thousands of views, but with so many new changes to the software since it went up earlier this year, a newer version was due.

So we recorded last week’s session and it’s now available to view online, anytime…

Watch it full screen (and in HD) here.

Remember, if you’d like to join one of our live weekly webinars, check out our webinar schedule for details. We’d love you to join us.

Cheers, Nigel

Have you ever asked yourself questions like these:

I know how much I want to earn, but how much do I need to charge my clients to make it? How much is enough? What happens if my bookings go down, or I move to cheaper albums… or shoot-and-burn?

Then check this out…

We’ve just uploaded a recording of our latest album-based marketing webinar in which Ian uses his Minimum Average Sale Calculator to help you answer those questions – and more important, show the impact on your income if you change what you’re doing – or your bookings go up or down.

A quick post because that’s all it needs…

If you’re not selling your templates in the Photojunction store, you’re leaving money on the table. And easy money at that.

Since we launched the store last year, we’ve been paying out monthly to plenty of users who are skimming an extra level of income off work they’ve already done.

Photojunction makes it ‘one-click’ easy to start selling your wares in the store, so what’s stopping you?

Here’s a post about how it works and a series of store tips.

Go wipe that table clean.

Cheers, Nigel

I’m dropping my prices … people aren’t spending as much … my bookings are down … I need to go to cheaper albums … I’ve started doing shoot-and-burn … I’m worried about my income.

You’ve heard the talk. Are you struggling in the face of competition, recession and demanding clients? Or do you just want to hear someone else’s take on things?

As well as our usual Photojunction webinars, we’re hosting two with Queensberry on the most critical issue facing professional photographers: how to survive and thrive in today’s demanding market.

Webinar 1: How to sell albums (and why)
Thurs 19 August NZT.

What can my competitors teach me? How should I choose my sample albums? How could I double my sales per wedding? How could I offer cheap coverages without selling them? How could my “best” offer be too successful? Are the most successful photographers the best photographers? What do you mean, there are only two ways to compete?

Webinar 2: How much do you need to charge?
Thurs 26 August NZT.

I know how much I want to earn, but how much do I need to charge my clients to make it? How much is enough? What happens if my bookings go down, or I move to cheaper albums … or shoot-and-burn?

Ian has created a spreadsheet to help you answer those questions – and more important, show the impact on your income if you change what you’re doing – or your bookings go up or down. This powerful tool will be available online so you can use it yourself.

Don’t miss out. Book now.

It’s our first time with this content so numbers will be limited. Ian will present, with comment and questions from QBY CEO Stephen Baugh and Jo Newman (UK Account Manager). You’re welcome to submit questions in advance, or ask them during the event. Notes and resources will be available to take away.

Click here for webinar times and to reserve your place.

As the new month rolls over (can you believe it’s August already!), so does our webinar schedule.

The August schedule will be online shortly, but in the meantime, here’s the details about tomorrow’s webinar:

Intro to Photojunction @ 9am (NZT)

In this webinar Danny will show you how to fire up the software and start using it. He’ll also walk you through everything from registering, to designing an album, to exporting and sending.

It’s free to all so come along, listen, learn and ask questions. We’d love you to join us.

Remember that’s 9am NZT. Here are tomorrow’s times for the rest of the world…

AUSTRALIA (East coast) – Thurs 7:00 AM
NEW ZEALAND – Thurs 9:00 AM
UK – Wed 10:00 PM
