labftp-iconIf you’re a Queensberry client, you’re almost certainly using LabFTP to upload your orders and print files. We’ve just finished the help pages for the new version, which has added functionality for ordering prints online from QBY (click here).

Which prompts this very important notice!

To send your Remix orders to Queensberry all you have to do is drag the ENTIRE BUNDLE created by the Remix Send Order wizard to LabFTP for uploading.

Please don’t open the folder and guess what to send – Queensberry told us what they wanted to put in the bundle, and they need it all!

Don’t know about LabFTP? Click here. It’s great.

I posted the gist of this on the Digital Wedding Forum today…

FWIW we didn’t set out to compete with the slide show programs. We were after something that took just a minute of your time, was portable, and captured maximum marketing benefit from the work you’ve done designing your album(s).

That doesn’t make what we’ve done right, or perfect (it’s not), but does explains our goal. It’s great, for no effort, to be able to display every album you made last season to all this season’s prospective clients.

Queensberry uses the slideshow feature to email our album design jobs to clients. We display the layout numbers in the movie and our clients email back their comments and edits.

I don’t use Remix’s presets. Instead I use Custom to size it to fit a 1024×768 screen, so I’m sure anyone can view. It will look really great when projected. Here’s a 7MB sample from our blog. Hint: Don’t add music if you’re emailing; the audio will be bigger than the video.

We created a (portable) movie feature so we can email, upload or burn to CD or whatever. Uploading or burning are better options for very large shows with hundreds, even thousands of images.

If I was presenting in studio I would create a slideshow with music that I could display on my monitor or projector. I did this for years to demonstrate at seminars and it worked fine.

Assuming you want to present albums, your other option is to use the Preview palette, which you can set to review full screen. That works great too. You could also export proof quality layout files from the Album menu and do what you want with them. They are full size jpegs at 72dpi, which you can downsize if you wish. We do intend to implement the ability to specify an output size in a future release.

Again, we’re not trying to compete with Boinx or Proshow Gold, just get you a slideshow for a minute of your time. Play with the settings and see how you go. For further help, ask/search on our forum.

Cheers, Ian

Danny and Stephen are in geek heaven. Here’s another bleet update from WPPI…

@PJ_Danny – had an incredible session with a whole bunch of PJ Pros. Heard some amazing stuff – like people designing 300 page albums in PJ!

Cheers, Nigel

There’s probably a lot of you not on Twitter yet, but Twitter’s how Stephen and Danny are letting us know how they’re going in Vegas,  so I’m bringing Twitter to blogging!

Tweet-blogging‘ is the art of blogging in under 140 characters, and each message is a ‘Bleet‘ (a tweet on a blog). For example…

Want to catch up at WPPI? Follow Danny on Twitter (PJ_Danny), visit stand 1241 or email him at danny@photojunction.com.

Here’s another one…

Murphy’s law – the guy’s display screen dies the morning of the show. Luckily they’re able to grab a replacement in the nick of time!

I’ll keep bleeting and let you know how they’re getting on – I hear poker might be on the cards tonight ;)

Cheers, Nigel

Actually I forgot to mention this …

The thing that really impressed me with LabFTP was the elegant integration with Photojunction. Forget about albums, you can order prints from QBY based on the various collections you build in Remix, which emphasises that Remix is a sales tool. It’s also nice that, if you’re using Remix, LabFTP goes and looks up your account details, SMTP settings etc.

When all the bits of the puzzle come together like that it all starts making more sense.

Look out for more info from Danny on this one, but to quote the man himself, “It was awesome!”

Yesterday we hosted the Queensberry LabFTP 3.0 presentation at our studio in Lyttelton.

It was great to see the project finally out in the wild.

Bob talked about his life and work. Stephen and Michelle added a Queensberry flavour.

Danny talked us through the simplicity and power of the latest LabFTP.

Thanks all.

This presentation reminded me of something really important. Too often we learn new software by trial and error. These guys started a conversation with us all … an important step to building a relationship. Through this relationship – the one we have with our suppliers – we can understand and use our opportunities better. Where we take this conversation is up to us as photographers but it’s a way to take the trials and the errors out of learning.

Create a conversation, build a relationship, and open a door.

Cheers
