I run the Queensberry Bindery - never say "factory"! It’s a great privilege, and we do enjoy watching visitors gasp and smile at how much handwork and care goes into making a Queensberry. So this week, as we release our new packaging, I thought I'd show you how even our presentation box is a handmade product!

We love handmade, and we love the companies that practice it, so we felt right at home with Glenn and the team at Artrite. They do a lot of fine art screen printing for New Zealand artists like Dick Frizzell, Stanley Palmer, Michael Smithers and the late Don Binney. You can see some “test pulls” on the walls.

Here are Dee and Glenn applying the base colour for our new box, while I try to look useful.

We knew the base colour we wanted, but tested a number of colours for the overprint. The screen itself is green and gold. It was fascinating to watch Glenn and Heather (Mum!) working through this.

We wanted to retain the artwork that we’ve been using for twenty years, but introduce a sophisticated new colour. The screen printing catches the light and adds a beautiful texture.

The new colours draw together all the elements of our packaging and work well with the product colours we offer.

The Creative Director seems happy!

Mum and I had such a great time playing with the colour to get it just the way we like it ~ a gorgeous box to represent your work and our albums even better than before.

Enjoy!

Adri
