The Queensberry Blog

It’s nearly the holiday season again, so what better way to celebrate than with a wedding held on the 1st of January this year with a little bit of that christmas feeling! Yukiko and Alex were married at The Church of the Ascension in Burghclere, Hampshire, England, and photographed by Ryan Browne.

The reception was held at Highclere Castle which is the set of the ITV drama Downton Abbey and is an amazing setting for a wedding.

Ryan says “It was a winter wedding, and with the ceremony quite late on in the day Yukiko and Alex chose to have their portraits shot before the Church ceremony. There is a nice sequence in the album when they see each other for the first time which was a great moment to capture.”

Carla and Tim got married on the 4th of June 2011 at Whirlowbrook Hall. Here’s what Carla said about her photographer. “Steve Gerrard was one of our first wedding bookings. His style of photography is artistically modern with more than a hint of super-cool. Because you’re around your photographer a lot, it’s really important to get someone who is on your wavelength & Steve was very much that. Through Steve’s pictures, I could kind of get an idea how our wedding was going to be portrayed and what our album was going to end up like which was really exciting.”

They are a very cool couple in love and their day was perfect!

Here’s a very cool wedding video in stop-motion, created by Auckland team Bayly & Moore.

“Marina + Andy got married in immaculately detailed style in the gorgeous old Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy. Featuring a classic town hall, an inside swing, brand new moustaches, vintage fur trimmings and a New York finish, these guys nailed every wonderful moment!”

Ashley Loh and Chad Mumm were married at Sodo Park in Seattle on August 20th this year. They were photographed by Laurel McConnell.

Ashley’s style was romantic, she had her grandmother’s broach re-purposed into a handmade birdcage veil and also wore a really stylish silk belt. And Chad was very James Bond in his tux! The venue was beautiful and historic – set in the heart of the industrial district. Their decor was romantic yet rustic, with herbs for the boutonnieres and eucalyptus candles scenting the room. They even had signature cocktails concocted just for them by a well known New York cocktail maker.

Here are a few layouts from the 14x10H Duo sample album created by Laurel.

Lauren and Colin were photographed by Leah Kua at a location that is very special to them – their family property in Kurrajong, New South Wales, Australia. This was their beloved engagement session in preparation for their wedding this year on December 9. They chose a 10×7 Duo to showcase their favourite beloved images as a guest book. This book will eventually become a set, along with their Queensberry wedding album.

“Beloved sessions are so incredibly close to my heart as an artist” Leah says, “they are so unique because they capture and celebrate the true beauty and uniqueness of a couples relationship. As their family grows and changes Lauren and Colin may move away from here some day and I was so excited to have not only their relationship captured, but their lives, their gorgeous daughter Grace and their sweet little dog Angel (who they made sure to include as well).”

The images in this Press Album are by photographer James Yeats-Brown, and all were taken on an iPhone using the Hipstamatic app.

“I realise there’s a bit of a debate brewing over this approach” says James, “but to me a photo is a photo – it has to stand on merit regardless of the means of capture – and if it works in a Queensberry then so much the better! More and more of my clients now own professional grade cameras themselves and I wanted to create something to demonstrate that interesting imagery isn’t just a product of expensive kit. So, although this started as a fun personal project it’s proving to be a great sample book and a talking point for prospective customers too. I really wanted to see if it was possible and I am now looking forward to doing an all-portrait version.”

Can’t wait to see the portrait album!

Sharon and Dave were married on an early spring afternoon at the beautiful location of Jonah’s Whale Beach in Sydney’s famously picturesque Northern Beaches.

Their photographer Luke Butterly from LB Photography says that “as a couple they’re very easy going and the wedding was happy and laid back. The bride has a beautiful way about her which comes through in the photographs, her dress was very elegant and understated which suited her perfectly and set the tone for the whole event.

We chose the pool area at Palm beach for the wedding photography and then went to Pittwater for sunset, where on a late Friday afternoon we had the area to ourselves for a beautiful intimate photo shoot, before heading back to Jonahs for the reception with the other guests.

I think part of being a photographer is about knowing when to shoot and when to stand back building a relationship with the couple so that they feel comfortable with you being around them and trust that you can get those real and natural shots without forcing anything. This is certainly the way that Sharon, Dave and I worked together.

We chose a digital flushmount 14x10H album for it’s simplicity and elegant design. Using a white background complemented the afternoon’s subdued colours of the beach wedding. The Queensberry album is exquisitely designed but is in keeping with the couple’s elegant and understated personality, whilst still leaving the photographs to speak for themselves.”

Thomas & Rachael were married on the 19th June 2010 at St David’s Cathedral, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Their photographer, Ross Grieve says that ”St David’s Cathedral is a stunning setting to start an unforgettable day. From St David’s we made our way back to Pointz Castle, Rachael’s family farm, where a huge marquee and everything you could wish for was in the middle of a paddock with the most stunning view. It was the sort of location that did just take your breath away.

Rachael in her flowing dress was perfect for images on the cliff tops and Thomas just looked so proud.”
