It bears repeating that a methodical approach is in order. Arrange all prints and Page Mounts in the order in which they will appear in the album. Compare the page mounts and the prints they are intended to display, and make sure the two agree!
To avoid mistakes, it’s a good idea to place all mounts inside the album in their final position as you go, and also to stack the prints in the correct order as you check them against the mats. Lifting the tape is easier if you use the tip of a trimming knife. Do not remove the release layer entirely - just the corners, as shown in the next photograph. Exposing the the release layer only at the corners means you can move the mount around on the mat freely to position it, then “tack” it into position by pressing the exposed areas lightly onto the page. The ends of the release layer should be folded so that they project outside the mount where they can be reached. Although our photo doesn’t show it, the tape around the apertures can be folded to project into the apertures so this, too, can be easily removed. The page mount must be positioned on the page before the prints - otherwise, of course, you would have no idea where the prints should go. Once you are satisfied with the position of the mat, remove the release layer from all tape as shown below. The repositionable film has a release layer on both sides. One release layer has a white, opaque look. The other has a clear "shower curtain" appearance. The opaque side goes against the page. At this stage you'll remove only this layer, in order to attach the adhesive to the page, The clear side faces upwards to take the photograph later. Don't remove this layer now. The film can be placed “by eye”, and it can be removed and repositioned if necessary. The surest method is to peel and fold back just 30mm or so of release layer from on end of the piece, as in the photo. (You may prefer to dispense with this approach as your confidence builds.) Reach underneath, grasp the partially peeled back release layer and remove this progressively, smoothing down the adhesive film in the same direction as you do so. Laying the adhesive down progressively from side to side in this way, and smoothing it down as you go, will avoid any chance of air pockets under the film. Finally, remember this is pressure sensitive adhesive: rub it down all over with a soft cloth. Make sure the page mount too is carefully pressed down. |
